World Care Civilian Emergency Relief Center of Tucson is on high alert to assist in the aftermath of a catastrophic magnitude 7.2 earthquake that hit Turkey on Sunday, October 24. As of Tuesday evening, it is estimated that more than 450 deaths and 1,350 injuries have arisen as a result of the earthquake. These numbers are expected to rise as aid workers continue to search through more than 2,000 collapsed buildings in and around Van.

World Care is collaborating with International Blue Crescent Relief and Development (IBC) to help the victims of the earthquake. Their teams have reached disaster areas in Van and neighboring villages to assess basic needs in the communities. Food, hygiene materials, heaters, and blankets have been identified as the most necessary emergency supplies for the area, as nighttime temperatures can drop to below-freezing levels and snow is predicted later in the week.

World Care will only be accepting financial donations in order to sponsor IBC's efforts to provide food and other resources for victims of the earthquake.
